Drum Set lessons

Playing the drums places the highest demands on coordination and the musculoskeletal system of the entire body. Our drum lessons provide the necessary technical, coordinative and theoretical prerequisites and knowledge to be able to accompany, solo and improvise in all styles and musical worlds.

Main topics are playing techniques, styles, sound, improvisation, sight-reading, interpretation as well as advanced concepts and contexts. It can be said that perception is expanded here – only those who can imagine something can also realize it purposefully or freely. This accompanying, soloing or improvising.

These skills are taught for students of different levels – from beginner to advanced, from study preparation to professional musician coaching – in private lessons as well as in small groups. The lessons give the necessary technical, coordination and theoretical prerequisites and knowledge. Special attention is given to the understanding of styles and musical cultures. It may sound esoteric, but here the consciousness is actually expanded. Only if you can imagine something, you can realize it purposefully or freely, accompanying or soloing or improvising. (Detailed lesson description: see below!)

Drumming lessons with Ernst Bier

Rhythm, groove and drumming, inspire every generation, whether for fun, as a varied hobby or as a fascinating profession.

I teach children, teens and adults from beginner to advanced. It takes practice to become a good drummer. Starting with percussion techniques, rhythm figures and standard rhythms up to professional techniques, training is inevitable My goal is to offer the student as individual, versatile and interesting lessons as possible, dealing with all areas of today’s music, promoting fun and enthusiasm for the instrument as well as band- and song-oriented playing in order to prepare him optimally for playing with other musicians. Beginners as well as experienced players and advanced players will find all the prerequisites to learn and develop almost all aspects of modern drumming during the weekly lessons (duration: 45/60 minutes). The lessons are held in German as well as in English.

The drums also play an important role in music education, e.g., in the reduction of aggression. Especially with younger children, the drums can also be used to teach basic musical understanding such as beat and rhythm. Due to the quick sense of achievement, the motivation level of beginners is very high. The versatility and complexity of playing the drums can create great long-term motivation.

My room is equipped with two drums and a modern technical system allow the student e.g. to play via headphones etc.

Learn more about the instrument
Rhythm is the basis of music. Drum Set is THE instrument for rhythm. It was developed around 1900, among other things, to copy traditional drums, to replace them, to combine them on one instrument and to make their different rhythms playable by one player at the same time.
In this way, one can directly feel the rhythm of different styles and musical worlds on the drum set. It is an incredible feeling not only to create these rhythms, but also to influence them, to solo or improvise rhythmically to and over them, and even to accompany oneself if necessary.
