Electronic Music Composition & Production

The course electronic music composition and production will explore musical composition starting from basic theory: how to build a chord, what a “chord progression” is, and how to compose a melody. Then we will dive into production concepts like the difference between MIDI and audio, and how we can manipulate both. We will also learn how to produce a beat and how to record your own musical tracks through Ableton Live.

This course dives into elements of music composition derived from classical theory, jazz harmony, and hip hop beat culture. With focuses on song structure and experimental additive composition, examples of techniques used by popular artists will be broken down and analyzed. Using Ableton Live and Logic Pro X as foundations, students will learn how to generate content and create their own music while exploring the fundamentals of music production.
