Matt Adomeit

Matt Adomeit is an US-American bassist, mandolinist, composer, and teacher currently based in Berlin, Germany. Matt was raised on an eclectic diet of baroque and classical music, American old-time and Irish trad, and these early influences inform his approach to jazz and other modern genres. Matt began playing both the double bass and mandolin at the age of 10, and over the years has also grown into a versatile multi-instrumentalist on the guitar, mandola, electric bass, banjo, violin, and cello.

For his bachelors, Matt studied at the Oberlin College and Conservatory’s prestigious double degree program, where he received degrees in both Economics and Jazz Bass. During this time he was active as a teacher and performer, with highlights including a performance with the Oberlin Orchestra in New York’s Carnegie Hall and shows representing the Oberlin Conservatory Jazz Department in Chicago and at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., in addition to appearing at jazz clubs and venues throughout the midwest.

In 2013, Matt moved to Europe to participate in the EUJAM program, a Master’s program which entailed study in three of Europe’s most prominent conservatories for jazz: the Amsterdam Conservatory, the Jazz Institute of Berlin and the Rhythmic Music Conservatory of Copenhagen. During this period Matt formed the string trio Steel Sheep, which went on to tour Slovenia, Croatia, Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands, and was released two albums with Matt’s original compositions. Notable tours also include South Korea and Morocco with the Ahaddaf Quartet, and Nepal, Portugal, and Italy with Mn’Jam Experiment.

Matt moved to Berlin in 2016 and is still active as both a sideman and a bandleader. He can regularly be seen performing across Europe and beyond with projects including Sagas Ensemble, The Gerhard Ornig Trio, The Rick Hollander Quartet, the Ed Kröger Quintet, and more.
